Child care crisis stretching on 

This was the sobering message Landon McKay delivered to the Fairmont Economic Development Authority and the Fairmont City Council earlier this week. McKay is a business development specialist with First Children's Finance, a multi-state community development financial institution that works with communities and individual child care businesses to increase the supply and sustainability of child care.

Ceylon discusses storm damage 

It was reported that federal disaster relief or other help probably will not get to Ceylon or will arrive later. The council approved paying the $14,000 in bills related to public infrastructure damage.

Board candidates debate issues 

The four Fairmont Area School Board candidates - Michael Edman, John Gibeau, Martha Myren and Rufus Rodriguez - had the opportunity to let the public know their positions during a forum Wednesday at City Hall in Fairmont. John Gibeau is originally from Ceylon and has lived there his entire life.

It was a little more than a week ago that a brief, ugly storm slammed the Fairmont area. It tore at Ceylon and Granada, and punched Fairmont in the gut.

City thankful for volunteers 

Coffee hours for the month of October continue from 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn. This is the last month for the coffee hours until April.

County: - SIt's an emergency 

Martin County commissioners held a special meeting Tuesday to declare a state of emergency in the county, because of a violent storm that passed through the area less than one week ago. The brief rain and wind storm hit Fairmont about 6 p.m. Thursday and lasted only about 20 minutes.

Coffee Lovers meet Thursday 

Fields that look like lakes are back after the rain Wednesday and Thursday. About the only ones that like it are the seagulls and geese.
