Preservation commission hearing scheduled amid objections 

The Carlton Building, now the Days Inn, at 6 First Ave. NW in Rochester, was built in 1919-20, It was originally three stories tall. Two more stories were added in the late 1920s.

T & T Tilted Tavern liquor license approved 

Liquor licenses and a compliance issue at the Byron American Legion were topics at the City Council's Jan. 9 meeting. The new restaurant is owned by Tara and Eric Tierney.

Film student, Rochester native, finds drama on home turf

Deputy assaulted while intervening in domestic dispute 

A Dodge County Deputy is recovering from injuries and a Dodge Center man is in custody as a result of a domestic dispute on Dec. 30. Deputy Jeff Brion, a resident of Byron, was dispatched to a residence in Dodge Center on a report of an assault in progress. The criminal complaint against Trevor Earl Broitzman alleges that Broitzman assaulted his cousin and grandmother before deputies were called to the scene.

Frankenstein comes to life 

Frankenstein has been shuffling around for the last 200 years, but now the Rochester Public Library is bringing the creature back to life one more time. To commemorate the bicentennial of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," the library has invited writers in southeastern Minnesota to write novellas focused on the themes of creativity, disenfranchisement, and vengeance that Shelley explores in her novel.

Skid-loader, trailer stolen from Carr's Tree Service 

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of a 2013 Bobcat skid loader and a 2006 Midsota Versadump trailer that were taken from Carr's Tree Service in Byron. According to Captain Scott Behrns with the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the business on January 3, to take a report of a theft of the Bobcat and trailer.

Former Byron school board member Chris Douglas once said that every student athlete should get to play in front of a packed house at least once. In a rare opportunity when the boys and girls played in the same location on the same night, Byron broke open a close few minutes to defeat Kasson 63-28.

Trailer, Bobcat stolen 

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office is looking for anyone with information after more than $60,000 worth of equipment was stolen from a Byron business over the holidays. At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Carr's Tree Service, 605 Barbaree Lane SE, reported a trailer and Bobcat stolen from their parking lot.

Ivan Clifford Moen 

Ivan Clifford Moen, age 83 of Byron passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. Ivan was born on November 4, 1934 in rural Rock Dell, MN to Ole and Bertina Moen.
