Two Byron students' D.A.R.E. posters will be on display at capitol 

During the Byron D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony April 11, Olmsted County Sheriff's Deputy Jon Strum announced that two of the sixth graders from Byron Middle School had created posters that placed in the top ten statewide for the DARE contest. Gianna Brewer won first prize for the best DARE poster.

County's zoo seeks new cougar 

A pregnant cougar's due date will likely determine when an empty space at Olmsted County's Zollman Zoo will be filled. Karlin Ziegler, the county's parks superintendent, said the zoo's cougar died after eating a piece of rope, which blocked it's intestine.

Art and poetry collide at Crossings 

April is National Poetry month, a fitting time to hold one of the most important poetry and art events in Southeast Minnesota, said Marie Marvin, gallery owner of Crossings at Carnegie . The Poet and Artist Collaboration , in its 17th year, paired 26 poets with artists from Southeast Minnesota to create collaborative pieces on display at Crossings through the end of April.

Byron Schools Respond to Concerns Over Losing Nurse 

It had several parents upset. Last month, a Byron Public School District "Operation Committee" floated the idea of replacing a licensed school nurse with two health aides.

Mayo-related growth is nothing new in Byron 

Byron City Administrator Mary Blair-Hoeft stands in front of the new logo for the city of about 5,000, just west of Rochester. She doesn't see a big impact from Destination Medical Center yet, just more of the strong Mayo-generated growth that the city has seen for years.
