Minnesota briefs: Nonprofits to keep Nice Ride bike-sharing pilot alive 

Nice Ride, the bike-share rental program that's been operating in the Twin Cities since 2010, has ended a sister project in Bemidji after a four-year trial run. Nice Ride ended its sponsorship of the pilot program this month after the nonprofit's operations were acquired by a for-profit company.

Dr. Nolan Byler may not remember the very first baby he delivered, but he certainly remembers at least eight that came after. "I delivered all of the first eight" of his chldren, he said.

Packing in fun with alpacas

MN motorcyclist suffers life-threatening injuries after hitting a deer 

A Minnesota man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a deer early Friday morning in Polk County. The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened 11 2 miles west of Gully, Minensota, which is 45 miles northwest of Bemidji.

This new Building 22 at the Minneapolis Veterans Home campus was completed earlier this year. The state is seeking design work for three new veterans homes in Bemidji, Montevideo and Preston.

Woman Dies in Beltrami Co. ATV Crash 

A 911 caller reported the crash at 8:20 a.m. The crash was near the intersection of Nature Road NW and Mayflower Road NW in Eckles Township, which is about nine miles northwest of Bemidji. Forty-two-year-old Rosalee R. Miles of Shevlin was riding an ATV that left a roadway and went into a ditch, where it hit a barbed wire fence and overturned in a field.

Bemidji Tornado Makes Case for NOAA Weather Radio According to NOAA, for the first time since 2005, and only the second time on record, no one was killed by tornadoes in the USA in either May or June. Residents of Bemidji, Minnesota got quite a scare the morning of July 4. A tornado touched down in town at 6:18 AM; 200 yards wide - on the ground for nearly a mile.

Clean-up begins after possible tornado rips through Bemidji 

Severe weather that destroyed a garage, damaged houses and uprooted trees is being reviewed to determine whether a tornado touched down in Bemidji. Beltrami County emergency officials asked the public to avoid an area west of Bemidji State University after a storm swept through the city about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4. County Emergency Management Director Chris Muller said about 12 square blocks were affected.
