City sets 2019 levy at 9-percent increase from 2018 

The International Falls City Council Wednesday had two choices: Raise the levy for 2019 by 36 percent more than what was collected from property owners this year, or cut or find enough money from the proposed budget to get to a more reasonable increase that will balance the budget. The council decided upon the latter option, and voted 3-1 at a special meeting Wednesday to set the 2019 preliminary levy at $2.79 million, a 9 percent increase more than what was collected this year, which would generate an additional $230,488 in 2019.
