MN: SMART Transit to begin offering routes between Mayo Clinic campuses in Austin, Albert Lea 

Nov. 10--Starting next year, patients in need of services in Albert Lea or Austin can now get from point A to point B. Beginning in January 2019, SMART Transit will offer continual round trip services from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, along with limited additional trips on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The cost of the shuttle service will be $3 per person, per one-way trip, with the remaining cost per trip covered through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Transportation .

Masked attackers reported in Austin 

Officers were called to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin around 4 am Wednesday. Police Chief Brian Krueger says a man told them he was walking south after finishing his shift at Quality Pork Processor when he was attacked around 3 am between the skate park and the walking bridge behind the Austin Public Library.

Mower County Commissioner Sentenced for DWI, Gun Charges 

Mower County Commissioner Tim Gabrielson will spend a year on probation after pleading guilty to two charges stemming from a traffic stop near Austin last month. Gabrielson, 69, of rural Austin, pleaded guilty Thursday to a gross misdemeanor charge of third-degree DWI and a misdemeanor charge of carrying a pistol while under the influence.

Austin man gets more than seven years on drug charge 

An Austin man was sentenced Wednesday to more than seven years in prison on a charge that he was selling methamphetamine in the city. Jamie Lee Chris Schammel, 38, was sentenced in Mower County District Court by Judge Kevin Siefken to 92 months in state prison on a felony second-degree sale of 10 grams or more of a narcotic other than heroin within a 90-day period.

Mower Co. Commissioner Facing Possible DWI, Other Charges 

A Mower County Commissioner will appear in court Monday to face a number of misdemeanor charges stemming from a traffic stop in September. 69-year-old Timothy Gabrielson, of rural Austin, is charged with one count of 3rd-Degree driving while intoxicated, a gross misdemeanor, as well as misdemeanor charges of 4-Degree driving while intoxicated and carrying a pistol while under the influence.
