Book about 1916 Minn. iron ore strike wins 2018 Hognander award 

Gary Kaunonen is winner of the 2018 Hognander Minnesota History Award for his book "Flames of Discontent: The 1916 Minnesota Iron Ore Strike." The award was announced Thursday, March 8, by Friends of the St. Paul Public Library.

Iron Rangers press their case for PolyMet mine 

Hundreds of residents turned out on Minnesota's Iron Range Wednesday for a last chance to persuade state officials to approve or kill the proposed, controversial PolyMet copper-nickel mine. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and state Pollution Control Agency issued draft permits for the controversial mine last month but have yet to make final decisions on the project.

Stakes are high in public meetings on PolyMet mine permits

MPCA posts PolyMet draft air emission permit 

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has informed Poly Met Mining Inc. that it has posted the draft air emission permit and supporting permit documentation on its website for the NorthMet copper-nickel-precious metals project near Hoyt Lakes. The draft air emission permit is the last state permit required for the upcoming public meetings in February.

Public input called for on mining 

A pair of state representatives from the region encouraged area residents to express support for the NorthMet permit to mine proposal by participating in the DNR's public comment period.
