Design Process Underway for Albert Lea School Athletic Field 

Just over a month after voters in Albert Lea approved a $24 million referendum to update several district facilities, district officials and stakeholders are meeting with an architect to hammer out some of the finer details of the renovations. At the district's school board meeting Monday, members were updated on the project's current status and financial situation.

Closer Cancer Clinical Trials for Locals 

Cancer patients looking to get into the best clinical trials have traditionally had to travel to large medical centers like the University of Minnesota or Mayo Clinic in Rochester. But that is no longer the case.

Veteran named as 3rd of July parade grand marshal 

Ruth Perry of Albert Lea spent 20 years in the U.S. Airforce, enlisting in 1944 when it was still the Army Air Core, then worked 22 years for Social Security Administration in Minnesota. After retirement, Perry says she started looking for place with fun and exciting chance to volunteer.

Lawsuit seeks to stem rate cuts for disability services 

Already facing staffing challenges, Linda Driessen said a planned 7 percent cut to rates paid through Minnesota's Medicaid waiver program would hurt Bear Creek Services' ability to provide needed support for the disabled residents in 13 of its 14 local properties. "I truly feel the feel 7 percent of this cut, it would decimate the system," said the Bear Creek executive director, who noted the Medicaid waivers can be used to provide services in residential homes with up to five occupants.

Freeborn County man pleads guilty to burglary 

Jabar Pedro Morarend, 46 of Albert Lea, was arrested on January 26 and charged with 2nd degree burglary. Authorities say they followed tracks in the snow from a home where the dresser drawers were all found partially opened to a home where Morarend was found sitting in the basement next to a washing machine.

No-wake restrictions in place in Albert Lea 

ALBERT LEA, Minn. Until the water level drops, Fountain Lake and Albert Lea Lake are under no-wake restrictions, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office.

Investigation into 4 Seasons Coffee 

The Minnesota Department of Commerce is investigating a local business owner for allegedly overcharging his customers. According to Minnesota Department of Commerce Communications Director, Ross Corson, as a part of the investigation the Fraud Bureau completed two search warrants on Thursday at David Nelson's businesses.

Prison sentence in Freeborn County kidnapping

Freeborn County woman in Blue Earth County crash 

The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened around 3:22 pm Thursday at the intersection of Highway 14 and County Road 56. A 2012 Chevy Traverse driven by a 60-year-old man from Eagle Lake was northbound at the stop sign and when it tried to cross Highway 14, the State Patrol says it was hit by an eastbound 2013 Buick Verano driven by a 20-year-old woman from Apple Valley. There were three passengers in the Verano: A 20-year-old woman from Albert Lea, a 23-year-old man from Waconia, and a 23-year-old woman from St. Paul.

Save Our Hospital Rallies Same Day as Ken Burns Visit 

The Albert Lea group Save Our Hospital has spent almost a year advocating for change after Mayo Clinic announced it would consolidate some services from Albert Lea to Austin. Save Our Hospital made it known they're still advocating for a full-service hospital.
