Record Highs In Northern Minnesota Saturday - Warm Weather Trend Continues 

Even with warm weather in the Twin Cities Friday, the snow depth Saturday morning at the Twin Cities airport was still 4" - the same morning snow depth we've had since December 2nd. Meanwhile, the snow depth in St. Cloud had decreased from 1" Friday morning to a trace Saturday morning.

Hy-Vee acquires some Shopko pharmacies in Minnesota, nearby states

Air quality alert issued for southeastern Minnesota 

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency issued the alert for the Twin Cities and central parts of the state at 2 pm on Tuesday. It has now been extended to the southeast and through 6 pm Thursday.

ALBERT LEA, Minn.-When there's a fire you call 911, but the Austin and Albert Lea Fire Departments are experiencing fewer applications than in years past. "It can be the stress of the job," said Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy.

Roads snow-covered across much of southern Minnesota 

Strong winds and wet, heavy snow smacked much of southern Minnesota and the Twin Cities on the first day of December, leading to dangerous driving conditions and scores of car crashes and spinouts. The storm, which was advancing northward across the bottom third of Minnesota on Saturday night, reached the metro area around 3 p.m. with heavy snowfall and wasn't expected to taper off until Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

ALBERT LEA, Minn.- The Minnesota Department of Education 20118 enrollment report card shows that state wide the diversity is increasing. This year 884,852 students are enrolled in Minnesota schools, over 200,00 students throughout Minnesota identify as a race other than white.

Speed limits changing to 60 mph from 55 on some southern MN roadways 

Some motorists will notice some speed-limit changes soon in southern Minnesota. The Minnesota DOT announced Thursday that speed limits will be raised from 55 to 60 miles per hour for motorists using Highway 69 near Albert Lea and Highway 43 from Mabel to Winona.

Final Preparations Underway as Albert Lea Prepares to Light Up Downtown for the Holidays 

After some criticism that its holiday displays were not festive enough last year, the city of Albert Lea is just days away from flipping the switch on a massive upgrade to its holiday lights downtown. "It wasn't the prettiest, and when you go to other towns and you see how pretty and vibrant everything is, then you drive through ours and it's like, 'yes, there's a little effort but it could be improved on,'" Teresa Howland, a member of a committee formed to raise money for new lights, said.
