Symposium offered on dangers of sex trafficking, sexual assault 

The symposium "One Loaf at a Time," which focuses on the dangers of sex trafficking and sexual violence, will be held Wednesday and Thursday, April 25-26, in Hackensack and Walker. Doors open at 5 p.m. Both events are free.

Drug bust in northern Minnesota lands 29 people in jail 

Authorities in northern Minnesota have arrested 29 people tied to a multigenerational drug ring and say the suspects are now facing felony charges for the sale and possession of illegal drugs, including large amounts of methamphetamine and prescription opiates. Law enforcement also seized butane hash oil, high grade marijuana, firearms and proceeds from drug sales when they arrested the suspects, both men and women, ranging in age from 26 to 68 on March 28, the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office said.

Sex trafficking seminar April 25-26 in Hackensack 

Linnea Dietrich of Hackensack and Lynnette Dirks-Tripp will offer a two-day seminar again this year to make people aware of sex trafficking in this area. This year, there will be a documentary film, "I Am Jane Doe," shown at Bear Pause Theater in Hackensack April 25 and a personal story told April 26 at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley school from a victim of sexual abuse.

Working Together Coalition active again 

The Working Together Coalition is a coalition made up of community members that are interested in making the communities of Northland, Pine River-Backus, and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley a safe and healthy place for youth. Specifically, the coalition seeks to prevent substance abuse by youth through community collaboration.
