Change orders to Aitkin County building project 

The Aitkin County building project is 14 percent complete, Bruce Schwartzmann of the BKV Group reported during the board of commissioners meeting on Oct. 9. BKV is providing architectural services for the government center building project that is currently underway on 2nd St. NW in Aitkin. Precipitation has put a damper on progress.

Great River Strings Concert to feature a Dinner and Dance Program 

The Great River Strings Orchestra will present a Gala Fundraiser at the C-I Pub's Pine Room in Ironton, MN on Saturday, October 27. Beginning with a social hour at 5:00 and dinner at 6:00, the orchestra will perform both classical and contemporary music from many of the James Bond films. Starting with "Diamonds Are Forever", the orchestra will play music from Bond films of the last 50 years, concluding with a "Mystery Diamond" drawing at the end of the program.

Aitkin Fire Department awarded grant for equipment 

The Aitkin Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $121,991. Widseth Smith Nolting assisted the fire department and Fire Chief Brian Pisarek with their grant application, helping them obtain the funds necessary to purchase new personal protective equipment.
