3-vehicle crash kills McGregor man 

An 81-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash at 5:26 p.m. Saturday, June 16, on Highway 169, just south of Garrison. The Minnesota State Patrol reported a Dodge Ram truck pulling a utility trailer rear-ended a Chevrolet Silverado, pushing it into a Dodge Caravan.

Man dies by suicide in Aitkin jail 

A 57-year-old Aitkin man died June 1 in the Aitkin County Jail as the result of suicide. Correction officers reported Monte James Tibbetts was walking around in his cell area at 4:57 a.m. in the Aitkin County Jail, according to the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office.

District ties up loose ends prior to budgeting 

The Aitkin School Board held a special meeting on June 8. The board received two plan proposals for the 220 acre site for future expansion and were asked to review each for discussion at its next meeting on June 25. The project would fall within the 2019 budget period, and numbers will be considered when completing the budget. a Resignations were accepted for District Curriculum, Lisa DeMars, and Food Service Director Vic Keil.

The Regional Report: Staples to see new apartment building, moves closer to another 

Next season, the baseball field at Aitkin High School will have lights thanks to a donation from the city of Crystal, the Aitkin Independent Age reported. The lights will allow teams to play through doubleheaders that might otherwise be cut short due to darkness in the early spring.

Clay works celebrate artists' love affair with nature 

This sculpture titled "Aldo," is made of raku clay and was created by Ken and Pat Larson. Their work will be on display at Ripple River Gallery near Bay Lake from June 6 through July 8, with a reception to meet the artists from 2-5 p.m. June 9. Bob Harwarth announces run for commissioner
