Minnesota judge: Federal law bars denying insurance coverage for transgender medicine 

Denying insurance coverage for transgender health care is unlawful under the Affordable Care Act and federal laws prohibiting sex discrimination, a federal judge in St. Paul ruled Thursday in a case that is being closely watched nationally. The opinion came in the case of a Minnesota woman who sued her employer, Essentia Health, for denying coverage for her son's gender transition, including surgery and medications.

Ready, set: no-go bids delay Moberg Park improvements 

Long-anticipated improvements at Chisago City's downtown Moberg Park may not be completed this summer due to failure to receive acceptable bids. At a June 14 bid opening, Braden Construction was the only bidder for a planned shelter and restrooms at the park.

5. Human remains found at NW Minn. farmstead match missing person case 

Human remains found at a Clay County farmstead last week were confirmed to be those of a missing person in connection with a murder case, according to a Clay County Sheriff's Office news release.

Construction scheduled to begin on Crow Wing county highways 

The Crow Wing County Highway Department entered into a contract with Anderson Brothers Construction for bituminous surfacing on County Highway 2 from County Highway 45 to Highway 25 and on County Highway 21 from County Highway 2 to Highway 371. Construction work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 7, with subgrade repair work on County Highway 2 just west of County Highway 9 and milling at the bridges on County Highway 2 and County Highway 21. Mainline paving is scheduled to begin the week of June 11 on County Highway 2. Right turn lane and passing lane construction at Lone Oak Road and Buffalo Creek Road on County Highway 21 will begin the week of June 11 followed by bituminous leveling and mainline paving.
