We
are located just 30 miles southwest of Duluth, and only a short
10 miles from Cloquet. Whether you are taking the Interstate (I-35)
or taking Scenic Minnesota Highway 23 Wrenshall is not hard to find,
even though we pride our "off-the-beaten path" location.
As of the
census2
of 2000, there were 308 people, 111 households,
and 88 families residing in the city. The
population density was 78.8/km˛ (204.3/mi˛).
There were 120 housing units at an average
density of 30.7/km˛ (79.6/mi˛). The racial
makeup of the city was 96.43%
White, 2.27%
Native American, and 1.30% from two
or more races.
Hispanic or
Latino of any race were 0.97% of the
population.
There
were 111 households out of which 44.1% had
children under the age of 18 living with
them, 63.1% were
married couples living together, 16.2%
had a female householder with no husband
present, and 20.7% were non-families. 14.4%
of all households were made up of individuals
and 3.6% had someone living alone who was
65 years of age or older. The average household
size was 2.77 and the average family size
was 3.09.
In the city the population
was spread out with 32.5% under the age
of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25
to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who
were 65 years of age or older. The median
age was 34 years. For every 100 females
there were 83.3 males. For every 100 females
age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males.
The median income for
a household in the city was $39,643, and
the median income for a family was $41,875.
Males had a median income of $33,438 versus
$19,643 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $21,510.
None of the families and 2.6% of the population
were living below the
poverty line.
WRENSHALL, a city in Silver Brook Township, sections 20,
21, 28, and 29; incorporated as a village on March 17, 1926. The post office
was established in 1893 with John Habhegger as first postmaster in his general
store; it had a station of the Northern Pacific and Milwaukee Railroads
in section 28.
The
Free Range Film Festival is a celebration of independent film and
country living. Films are screened inside a big old barn located
in the heart of Minnesota's organic farm country. The Free Range
Film Festival will be held at the corner of County Roads 1 & 4 just
one mile south of Wrenshall, Minnesota. The venue is less than two
hours north of the Twin Cities and just 30 minutes south of Duluth.
Park trails link up to the Willard Munger State
Trail at the north edge of the park; perfect for backpackers, bikers
(both mountain and tour), hikers, horseback riders, and skiers.
Check out the wildflowers in the spring, and the vivid colors in
the fall. Walk on the swinging suspension bridge high above the
raging St. Louis River. Visit the historic cemetery and the gorge
at Thomson Dam.
The Willard Munger State Trail is
a collection of multiple use trails between Hinckley and Duluth.
It consists of interconnecting trails offering hiking, bicycling,
in-line skating and snowmobiling. It highlights the picturesque
scenery and rich history of East Central Minnesota. The trail follows
the route of the railroad that saved many lives in the historic
Hinckley and Cloquet fires in the nineteenth century.
