of 2000, there were 249 people, 112 households, and 70 families
residing in the city. The
population density was 71.7/km˛ (185.8/mi˛). There were 135
housing units at an average density of 38.9/km˛ (100.7/mi˛). The
racial makeup of the city was 84.74%
White, 13.25%
Native American, and 2.01% from two or more races.
Hispanic or
Latino of any race were 0.40% of the population.
There were 112 households out of which 33.0% had
children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.9% were
married couples living together, 6.3% had a female
householder with no husband present, and 37.5% were
non-families. 36.6% of all households were made up of
individuals and 23.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years
of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the
average family size was 2.87.
In the city the population was spread out with
25.7% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to
44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who were 65 years of age or
older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there
were 100.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there
were 90.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city
was $27,222, and the median income for a family was $38,571.
Males had a median income of $32,292 versus $15,000 for females.
The
per capita income for the city was $14,776. About 12.9% of
families and 16.4% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 7.4% of those under the age of
eighteen and 33.3% of those sixty five or over.
Orr, a city in Leiding Township, was incorporated as a
village on June 7, 1935. The former Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway
station, located in section 12 of T. 64N, R. 20W, was the nearest railway
station for the Bois Forte Reservation. The post office was established
in 1907; William Orr was the postmaster and owner of a general store.

Vince
Shute Wildlife Sanctuary, a special place for bears and people,
nestled in the beautiful North Woods of Northern Minnesota. Without
a doubt,
the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary is the
place to see black bears and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
From our expanded viewing deck, visitors learn about bears by observing
their natural behavior. The American Bear
Association is proud to offer this unique educational opportunity.
Thousands of
people visit the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary every year, to view
and learn about black bears, their behavior, habitat needs and life
cycles. Visitors also get the opportunity to view a special group
of wild bears - that come to this location every summer - from an
elevated platform.
North Country Inn is located on beautiful Pelican Lake. We
have Services and accommodations available for the on the go
traveler, or the extended stay traveler. We are open all year
and can accommodate you in the winter or the summer.

price includes one unit per site with up to 4 people per site. Each
additional person is $5 per day. Camping deposit required $50/week.

the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary. Great wilderness fishing country,
also great for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Fishing fun
for bluegills, crappies, large and small mouth bass, northern pike,
walleye, perch and bullheads. Close to Orr for shopping, church,
dining, tennis courts, and supplies. We have beautiful, quiet wilderness
country for a great, quiet vacation getaway for the whole family.
We have 75 campsites all with water and electric hookups and 20
of them also have sewer hookup. 25 of the campsites are on the waterfront
with a dock between every two campsites. Campsites include a campfire
ring and a picnic table.
Enjoy
the view of the beautiful Ash River which leads to Lakes Kabetogama
and Namakan where fishing, bird-watching and boating are fabulous.
We also offer campsites for tenters and campers with the option
of water, electricity and sewer. Picnic tables, toilets and showers
are provided for your convenience.
