History:

Mizpah, the name of a city in sections 19, 20, 29, and 30 of T. 151N, R. 28W (Engelwood), is the Hebrew word for a watchtower. It is used as a parting salutation, meaning "The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another" (Genesis 31:49). It was incorporated as a village on January 2, 1905, and separated from the township on June 3, 1915. The first settlers were the Potter brothers, Will, Walter, and Sam, in January 1900, Walter becoming the first postmaster when the post office was established in 1901 and Will building a sawmill in 1904 .
