From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
LAX LAKE, a village in section 11 of T. 56N, R. 8W (Beaver Bay Township), with a post office, 1913-15, was named for the Johannas Waxlax family, Swedish immigrants who came in 1896 and acquired the first homestead; Johannas was killed in a train accident in 1910. The community developed about 1907 when the Alger-Smith Lumber Company's Duluth and Northern Minnesota Railroad reached the area; after the logging was done, the community became largely residential and later a resort area.
