According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²), all land.

Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there were 246 people, 128 households, and 66 families residing in the city. The population density was 158.3/km² (410.3/mi²). There were 147 housing units at an average density of 94.6/km² (245.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.15% White, 2.44% African American, and 0.41% from two or more races.

There were 128 households out of which 15.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.3% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 48.4% were non-families. 42.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.92 and the average family size was 2.59.

In the city the population was spread out with 16.7% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 25.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $25,278, and the median income for a family was $30,938. Males had a median income of $29,107 versus $25,208 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,239. About 20.8% of families and 24.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.0% of those under the age of eighteen and 18.0% of those sixty five or over.

History:

LAKE BRONSON, a city in Percy Township, was platted on February 8, 1905, and became incorporated on March 16. Its post office began as Percy, 1888-1904, was Bronson, 1904-38, changing to Lake Bronson January 2, 1939. The first settlers in the area were the Giles Bronson family, three miles east of the townsite in 1882, the post office of Percy being established on his farm with his wife, Maggie, as postmaster, and named for his home township in Ontario. The post office transferred in 1901 to the Andrew Vik store, Vik becoming postmaster in 1904, when the name was changed to honor the Bronson family. The first building on the site was a hotel erected by Swan Olson.

Camping - Seven camping sites are posted with camping permitted signs.

Information - This WMA is one of the largest in the state (31,000 acres). Come see moose or listen to the wolves howl.

Snowmobile - A groomed snowmobile trail goes through the unit.

Camping - 194 semi modern campsites, electrical hook-ups, dump station, showers, flush toilets. There is one handicapped site.

Information - Boat rental and landing, power boating, canoeing, sailing and fishing. Swimming, picnicking, playground, watch tower, volleyball, snacks, and ice fishing. Also, 4 backpack, 1 group camp and 2 canoe in sites.

Trails - Hiking and 14 miles of hiking trails, 7 miles of groomed cross country ski trails and 2 1/2 miles of paved bike trail. 1.5 mile self-guided trail.

Snowmobile - Groomed trail runs throughout Kittson County and connects with Lake Bronson State Park, Pelan and McTrail System Trails. Trail features Red River flat prairie and wooded wilderness with deer, moose and other wildlife. Access to good ungroomed riding.
