History:

HAMMOND, a city in sections 27 and 28 of Zumbro, was named for Joseph Hammond, the farmer on whose land it was platted. He was born in New Hampshire, March 28, 1816, and came to Minnesota, settling here in 1856. The city was incorporated as a village in 1900; the post office was first known as Hammondsford, 1878-81, was changed to Hammond in 1881, and became a community post office in 1965.
