Geography:

Halma is a city in Kittson County, Minnesota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.91 square miles (2.36 km˛), of which, 0.90 square miles (2.33 km˛) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2)  is water. The elevation is 997 ft (304 m) above sea level.

Demographics:

As of the census of 2010, there were 61 people, 26 households, and 17 families residing in the city. The population density was 67.8 inhabitants per square mile (26.2/km2). There were 34 housing units at an average density of 37.8 per square mile (14.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.1% White and 4.9% from two or more races.

There were 26 households of which 42.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.3% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 15.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.6% were non-families. 34.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.88.

The median age in the city was 35.8 years. 29.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 27.9% were from 25 to 44; 29.6% were from 45 to 64; and 6.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.8% male and 49.2% female.

History:  

HALMA, a city in Norway Township, incorporated as a village on September 28, 1923. The first merchant was John Edwin Holm, born in Norway in 1872; he came with his family to the United States in 1875, lived in Renville County until 1895, when he moved to a farm near Halma, becoming first postmaster when the post office began as Lafgren in 1902 and continuing when the name changed to Halma in 1904; served as first treasurer of Norway Township and died March 15, 1955, at Hallock. The community developed when the Soo Line came through, many businesses moving there from Beaton.
