Geography:

Goodridge is a small city in Pennington County, Minnesota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²), all of it land. The elevation is 1,171 ft (357 m) above sea level.

Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there were 98 people, 47 households, and 26 families residing in the city. The population density was 199.1/km² (523.1/mi²). There were 53 housing units at an average density of 107.7/km² (282.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.04% of the population.

There were 47 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 31.9% were married couples living together, 23.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% were non-families. 42.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.09 and the average family size was 2.85.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $17,292, and the median income for a family was $23,125. Males had a median income of $26,250 versus $14,688 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,636. There were 19.0% of families and 23.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including 43.5% of under eighteen and none of those over 64.

History:

GOODRIDGE Township and its city, in section 21, are named for a broad but very low ridge, only a few feet above the adjoining areas at each side, which reaches from the village about four miles southeastward. The city was incorporated as a village on August 19, 1915; it developed when the Minnesota and Northwestern Railway came in 1914 and was platted that year by Northern Townsite Company. Jay Payne was the first mayor; Payne and his wife, Jennie Noble Payne, came to Cloverleaf Township in 1905, purchasing a stone and lumber claim, then moved to Goodridge in 1915; Jennie Payne was born in New York in 1875, came to Minnesota in 1890, and was postmaster for 19 years beginning when the post office was established in 1915.
