From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
ERICSBURG, a village in section 7 of T. 69N, R. 23-25W (Rat Root), was founded by a real estate agent named Erik Franson, for whom the village is named; Franson built a sawmill at the site and in 1907 purchased the first settler Lou Boulin's 1897 homestead and platted the village. Franson was born in Sweden in 1872, came to the United States in the 1890s, spent a few years in Canada before settling in International Falls in 1905, where he died in 1914. The post office was established in 1907 with Gust Franson, brother of Erik, as postmaster; it had a station of the Duluth, Virginia and Rainy Lake Railroad.
