History:

CLEMENTS, a city in section 33 of Three Lakes Township, platted in 1902 and incorporated as a village on June 29, 1903, was named in honor of Peter O. Clements, a nearby farmer. He was born in Sweden, April 17, 1847; came to the United States, settling first in Washington County, Minn.; and removed in 1877 to section 32 in this township; he died in 1940. The site was first settled about a mile north of the present site as a trade center with a dairy and a post office established in 1900, with Lewis J. Rongstad as postmaster in the Rongstad-Thorston store. The Western Town Lot Company purchased the present site from Henry Petrie and platted six blocks in 1902; the post office was moved, and a number of businesses developed.
