Guide to Caledonia Minnesota

Caledonia is a city in Houston County, Minnesota and is is located 17 miles southwest of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Minnesota Highway 44 and Minnesota Highway 76 are two of the main routes in the community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.84 square miles (7.36 km²), all of it is land. The elevation is 1,181 ft (360 m).

Caledonia village was incorporated by a legislative act, February 25, 1870, and reincorporated on April 8, 1889. It is situated in Caledonia and Mayville Townships and is the county seat. Its post office began in 1855; the railroad was built through in 1879. Extensive clay deposits nearby were utilized in making bricks, creating an early industry. A station of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad was in section 13.
