Located at the junction of US Highway 2 and
Highway 92, Bagley is at the center of several natural
attractions. Beautiful Lake Lomond is right within the city
limits. Itasca State Park and the headwaters of the mighty
Mississippi River are just a few miles south of Bagley on
Highway 92. Visitors revel in the acres of forested areas and
the multitude of lakes surrounding the city.
Bagley is a strong community with a rich

According to the
United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.9
km˛ (1.9
mi˛). 4.7 km˛ (1.8 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it
(3.17%) is water.
As of the
census2
of 2000, there were 1,235 people, 553
households, and 289 families residing in
the city. The
population density was 260.6/km˛
(674.1/mi˛). There were 603 housing
units at an average density of 127.2/km˛
(329.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the
city was 87.85%
White, 0.73%
African American, 8.99%
Native American, 0.40%
Asian, 0.08% from
other races, and 1.94% from two or
more races.
Hispanic or
Latino of any race were 0.65% of the
population.
There were 553 households out of which
24.1% had children under the age of 18
living with them, 39.1% were
married couples living together,
10.3% had a female householder with no
husband present, and 47.7% were
non-families. 44.3% of all households
were made up of individuals and 28.0%
had someone living alone who was 65
years of age or older. The average
household size was 2.05 and the average
family size was 2.84.
In the city the
population was spread out with 20.6%
under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24,
22.0% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to
64, and 28.4% who were 65 years of age
or older. The median age was 43 years.
For every 100 females there were 83.5
males. For every 100 females age 18 and
over, there were 83.0 males.
The median income for
a household in the city was $23,125, and
the median income for a family was
$34,408. Males had a median income of
$26,875 versus $25,000 for females. The
per capita income for the city was
$15,472. About 13.1% of families and
20.7% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 30.0% of
those under age 18 and 22.5% of those
age 65 or over.
BAGLEY, the city and county seat, Copley Township,
sections 29 and 30, was named in honor of Sumner C. Bagley, an early
lumberman of this part of the Clearwater River, who removed to Fosston
in 1885 and died there in 1915. It was first settled in 1894 as a
logging camp and grew when the Great Northern Railway came in 1898, the
year the first store was built and its post office established; it was
incorporated on January 4, 1899.

the City Bagley on beautiful Lake Lomond and is a short drive
from Itasca State Park, home of the Mississippi Headwaters. The
city campground, which is inside the city park, has over 30 RV
campsites and over 10 tent sites
Lake Lomond
Lake Lomond is a 91-acre lake with a maximum
depth of 42 feet. The lake lies within the city limits of
Bagley. There is a city-owned public access in the Bagley City
Park just 1-1/2 blocks off State Highway 92. Anglers have a
variety of fish to pursue, such as walleye, northern pike,
bluegill, black crappie, pumpkinseed sunfish, largemouth bass,
and hybrid sunfish

The City of Bagley is proudly protected by the

part-time officers and works in close cooperation with the
Clearwater County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State

Clearwater county was in its
infancy in 1903 when Albert Kaiser, Sr., an already
established businessman and banker, came to Bagley
and helped organize First National Bank on Main
Street.
On June 2, 1903, with their
application for Charter approved, First National
Bank opened its doors for business; those doors have
remained opened since that day, making it the oldest
established bank in Clearwater County. More
noteworthy, one family has owned First National Bank
continuously and they now have a further distinction
as being the owners of the oldest privately owned
national bank in the State of Minnesota.
The banking tradition has deep
roots in the Kaiser family and the desire to be a
leader in the banking industry appears to be
continuing on all branches of the family tree. Their
latest endeavor was opening of a third office in
Wilton on March 3, 2003, which adds a third branch
to the growing business tree.
