History:

SEAFORTH, a city in sections 29-32 of Sheridan, platted in October 1899 and incorporated as a village on February 13, 1901, received its name from Loch Seaforth, an arm of the sea in the Hebrides, which partially divides Lewis from Harris. The post office began in 1899, with W. J. Carlton Pratt, postmaster; the site was first called Okawa, the name meaning "pike" in Ojibwe, a name chosen by Harry I. Orwig, chief engineer for the Chicago and North Western Railway's land company, who platted it in 1894.
